This page is about A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare. This page will include a story summary, a character profile, and famous quotes from the play. Plus, as an added bonus, a magical adventure for the kiddies.

This play is set in Ancient Athens. The Duke, Thesus, is preparing to wed the beautiful Hyppolyta (if I had written this play, I would have chosen a much better name like Sable or Carmen Electra. Hippolyta brings to mind a big grey, flabby water creature). Egeus brings a complaint to the Duke. He wants his daughter, Hermia, to marry Demetrius. Hermia, however, wants to marry Lysander. Thesus says that she must listen to her father. If she doesn't, she will be killed or forced into being a nun. She says she would rather die. The Duke gives her time to think it over. Lysander and Hermia decide to run off and get married, where Athenian law cannot reach them.
Then Helena appears. She was once betrothed to Demetrius, but he left her and chased after Hermia. But she is still smitten with Demetrius. She finds out the Lysander and Hermia plan to meet and run off to his aunt's. To try to win the favor of Demetrius, Helena tells him of their plans. He takes off after them, to stop them from getting away.
Then we cut to a scene of some actors who aren't nearly as good as they think they are. One, who is a lion in the play, is afraid he will frighten the ladies with his acting. They think they must explain everything to the audience. Let's just say they aren't Oscar material.
Then, the Fairy King Oberon and his wife Titania are having some relationship problems. They are fighting and both are mad. The King and his servant Puck see the problems between Lysander and Hermia, and Demetrius and Helena. So, the King tells Puck to fetch a love potion. But he makes a mistake, making Lysander fall in love with Helena. Then, to fix it, he make Demetrius fall in love with Helena. Now they're fighting over Helena. Hermia is upset, and Helena thinks they're all playing a cruel joke on her. Also, as revenge on the Fairy Queen, Puck puts a donkey head on one of the players, Nick Bottom, and makes the Queen fall in love with this ass. He gets a big head from having all these Fairy servants. Finally, the Fairies have had their fun, and the Fairy King fixes it by taking the potion off of Lysander. Now Lysander loves Hermia, Demetrius loves Helena, and everyone is happy. The Duke decides to have a triple wedding. They watch the very humorous play at their wedding feast. The Fairy Queen overcomes her feelings for Nick Bottom and works out her differences with the Fairy King. They all live happily ever after.
